使い方

• regardless of の形がとても多い

  「〜に関係なく」と言いたいときは、regardless of + 名詞句を使います。例: regardless of age「年齢に関係なく」、regardless of the result「結果に関係なく」。

• regardless 単独は「それでも」の意味

  文末などで regardless を単独で使うと、「状況は悪いが、それでも」という意味になります。例: He was warned, but he went regardless.

• despite との違い

  despite は「〜にもかかわらず」という前置詞で、後ろに名詞句が続きます。regardless of は「〜を考慮せずに」というニュアンスが強く、条件の違いを気にしない場合によく使います。

よくある間違い

  正: Everyone can apply regardless of age.

  regardless の後ろに名詞を続けるときは、通常 regardless of を使います。regardless to は不自然です。
