考え、概念 何かについて頭の中にある考えや理解。少し抽象的で、個人の見方や社会の考え方を表すことが多いです。
思い込み、考え方 必ずしも事実とは限らない、ある人が持っている考えや信念を表します。
少しの理解、知識 主に「have no notion of」「have some notion of」の形で、どれくらい理解しているかを表します。

idea より少し抽象的
notion は idea と似ていますが、個人的な考え、社会にある考え方、抽象的な概念を表すことが多いです。日常の小さな案なら idea のほうが自然です。

「〜という考え」は the notion that ... と表せます。例: the notion that success means money（成功とはお金であるという考え）。

of と一緒に使いやすい
「〜の概念」は the notion of freedom のように of を使います。また、have no notion of ... は「〜がまったく分からない」という意味です。
よくある間違い

Latin
notio : 知ること、考え、概念
Latin の notio は「知ること、考え」を意味し、動詞 noscere（知る）に関係します。そこから英語の notion は「頭の中にある考え、概念」という意味で使われるようになりました。
