  editor は「編集する人」だけでなく、text editor や video editor のように「編集ソフト」という意味でも使います。

• editor と writer の違い

  writer は文章を書く人、editor は文章を確認して直したり、掲載内容を決めたりする人です。同じ人が両方の役割をすることもあります。

• editor-in-chief

  editor-in-chief は「編集長」「主筆」という意味で、編集部のトップを指します。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I did editor of the article.

  正: I edited the article.

  editor は名詞で「編集者」です。動作を表すときは動詞 edit を使います。

• 誤: He is an edit in a magazine.

  正: He is an editor at a magazine.

  人を表す名詞は edit ではなく editor です。また、雑誌社で働く場合は at a magazine が自然です。
