使い方

• 形容詞と副詞の両方で使える

  early は形容詞として「an early train（早い電車）」、副詞として「arrive early（早く到着する）」のように使えます。形が変わらないので注意しましょう。

• early と soon の違い

  early は「予定や普通より早い」という意味です。soon は「今からまもなく」という未来に近い意味です。例: I arrived early. は「早めに着いた」、I will arrive soon. は「もうすぐ着く」です。

• 比較級・最上級

  early の比較級は earlier、最上級は earliest です。more early とは普通言いません。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I arrived soon for the meeting.

  正: I arrived early for the meeting.

  会議の予定時間より前に着いたと言いたい場合は soon ではなく early を使います。

• 誤: She wakes up early morning.

  正: She wakes up early in the morning.

  「朝早く」は early in the morning が自然です。early morning は形容詞的に early-morning flight などで使います。

• 誤: He came more early than me.

  正: He came earlier than me.

  early の比較級は earlier です。more early は通常使いません。
