〜から成る、〜で構成される 全体を主語にして、その全体を作っている部分を目的語に置く。やや硬い表現で、説明文・報告書・ニュースなどでよく使われる。
〜を含む あるグループやセットの中に、複数の要素が含まれていることを表す。include より硬く、全体の構成を説明するときに使いやすい。

  • be comprised of はよく見るが注意

    The team is comprised of five people. は実際にはよく使われるが、伝統的には避けるべきだと考える人もいる。試験やフォーマルな文章では The team comprises five people. または The team is composed of five people. が無難。

  • include より硬い

    日常会話では include を使うことが多い。comprise は報告書、説明文、公式文書などで構成要素を説明するときに向いている。
