偶然の一致 関係がないはずの出来事が、たまたま同じ時に起きたり、つながっているように見えたりすること。
同時発生、一致 2つ以上の出来事や状況が同じ時や場所で重なること。やや説明的・硬めの表現で使われることがあります。
考え・利益などの一致 意見、目的、利益などが同じになること。formal な文脈で使われることが多いです。

使い方

  • 「偶然」を表す基本語

    coincidence は「意味がありそうに見えるけれど、実はたまたま起きた一致」を表します。日本語の「偶然」「偶然の一致」に近い語です。

  • by coincidence の形がよく使われる

    「偶然に」は by coincidence と言います。似た表現に by chance がありますが、by coincidence は特に「2つのことが重なった」という感じが強いです。

  • It is no coincidence that ...

    「〜なのは偶然ではない」という意味で、理由や背景があることを示す定番表現です。
