  何かが起こる前に、準備したり知らせたりすることを表す副詞です。予定や行動の前に行うことに使います。

使い方

• in advance とほぼ同じ意味

  beforehand は in advance と同じように「前もって」という意味です。beforehand は日常会話で自然に使え、in advance は予約・支払い・通知などで少しきちんとした響きになることがあります。

• 文の位置

  beforehand は文末に置くことが多いです。例: You should call beforehand. また、文頭に置いて Beforehand, ... とすることもできますが、日常会話では文末が自然です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: Please tell me before hand.

  正: Please tell me beforehand.

  「前もって」という副詞は通常1語で beforehand と書きます。before hand と分けると不自然です。

• 誤: I prepared beforehand the meeting.

  正: I prepared for the meeting beforehand.

  beforehand は副詞なので、名詞を直接目的語のように続けません。「会議の準備をした」は prepare for the meeting と言い、その後に beforehand を置くと自然です。
