avail
役に立つ、助けになる 主にフォーマルな表現で、何かが人や状況にとって効果や利益をもたらすことを表します。日常会話では help や be useful の方が普通です。
利用する avail oneself of ... の形で「〜を利用する」という意味になります。oneself の部分は主語に合わせて myself, yourself, themselves などに変えます。
役に立つこと、効用 多くの場合、of no avail や to no avail の形で「何の役にも立たない」「むだに」という意味で使われます。
