• independentとの違い

  autonomousは「自分で判断して動く」「自治権がある」という意味が強く、組織・地域・機械にもよく使います。independentはより広く「依存していない」「独立している」という意味です。

• technologyでの使い方

  autonomous vehicle、autonomous robot、autonomous systemのように、AIやセンサーで人間の直接操作なしに動くものによく使われます。

• 名詞形はautonomy

  autonomousは形容詞で「自律した」、autonomyは名詞で「自律性、自治」です。文の中での役割が違います。

よくある間違い

• 誤: The robot is autonomy.

  正: The robot is autonomous.

  be動詞の後ろで状態を説明する場合は形容詞autonomousを使います。autonomyは名詞です。

• 誤: This car is autonomous car.

  正: This is an autonomous car.

  単数名詞carの前には冠詞anが必要です。autonomousは母音の音で始まるため、aではなくanを使います。
