• surrounding と surroundings の違い

  surrounding は主に形容詞で、「surrounding area（周辺地域）」のように名詞の前に置きます。surroundings は名詞で、「環境、周囲の状況」という意味になり、通常は複数形で使います。

• 名詞の前でよく使う

  形容詞の surrounding は、surrounding area, surrounding towns, surrounding environment のように、後ろの名詞を説明します。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I like the surrounding of this hotel.

  正: I like the surroundings of this hotel.

  「周囲の環境」という名詞として使う場合は、普通 surroundings と複数形にします。

• 誤: The shops surrounding are convenient.

  正: The surrounding shops are convenient.

  形容詞として「周辺の店」と言うときは、surrounding を名詞 shops の前に置くのが自然です。
