使い方

  • 名詞の前でよく使う

    simultaneous meetings、simultaneous events、simultaneous translation のように、名詞の前に置いて「同時の〜」という意味でよく使います。

  • 副詞は simultaneously

    「同時に」と動詞を説明するときは simultaneous ではなく simultaneously を使います。例: They arrived simultaneously.（彼らは同時に到着した。）

  • with と相性がよい

    「〜と同時の」と言うときは simultaneous with が自然です。例: The announcement was simultaneous with the launch.

よくある間違い

  • 誤: They arrived simultaneous.

    正: They arrived simultaneously.

    arrived を説明する副詞が必要なので、形容詞 simultaneous ではなく副詞 simultaneously を使います。

  • 誤: The meeting was simultaneous to the workshop.

    正: The meeting was simultaneous with the workshop.

    「〜と同時の」という意味では simultaneous with が標準的で自然です。
