知的障害のある 古い医学・教育用語で、知的発達に遅れがあることを表していた語。現在は人に対して使うと非常に失礼で差別的に受け取られるため、通常は intellectual disability や person with an intellectual disability を使う。
遅れた、遅延した 技術的・専門的な文脈で、発達・成長・進行などが通常より遅れていることを表す場合がある。ただし日常会話では差別的な連想が強いため、delayed, slowed, slowed down などに言い換える方が安全。
