  excitement は個人の『わくわくした気持ち』にも、会場や街などの『盛り上がった雰囲気』にも使えます。

• 基本は不可算名詞

  普通は a excitement とは言わず、much excitement、a lot of excitement、great excitement のように使います。特定の刺激的な出来事を複数表す excitements はありますが、日常英語ではまれです。

• excited と exciting との違い

  excitement は名詞で『興奮・わくわく』、excited は人の気持ちを表す形容詞で『わくわくしている』、exciting は物事を表す形容詞で『わくわくさせる』です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I felt an excitement before the concert.

  正: I felt excitement before the concert.

  excitement は普通、不可算名詞なので an を付けません。自然には felt excitement または felt a lot of excitement と言います。

• 誤: The movie was excitement.

  正: The movie was exciting.

  映画の性質を説明する形容詞が必要なので exciting を使います。excitement は名詞です。

• 誤: I am excitement about the trip.

  正: I am excited about the trip.
