バッジ、名札、社員証 服や首から下げる小さなしるしで、名前・所属・資格などを示すもの。会社、学校、イベント、警備などでよく使います。
記章、徽章 警察官、軍人、団体のメンバーなどが身分や役割を示すために身につける公式なしるし。
象徴、しるし ある経験、性質、立場などを表すものという比喩的な意味。特に a badge of honor は「誇りのしるし」という意味で使われます。

使い方

  • badge と button の違い

    badge は身分・所属・役割などを示すしるしです。button は服につける丸い飾りや缶バッジを指すことが多く、必ずしも身分を示しません。

  • 社員証は ID badge と言うことが多い

    会社や学校で使う『社員証・入館証』は ID badge、security badge、employee badge などと言うと自然です。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: I forgot my company card badge.

    正: I forgot my company badge.

    company card badge は不自然です。『会社の社員証・入館証』は company badge や employee badge が自然です。

  • 誤: Please put on your badge to your shirt.

    正: Please put your badge on your shirt.

    『服につける』は put A on B の語順にします。wear your badge もよく使います。
