  形容詞

  仕事・人・問題などについて、きちんと管理したり結果に責任を持ったりする立場にあること。多くの場合 responsible for ... の形で使います。

使い方

• responsible for の形が基本

  「〜に責任がある」「〜を担当している」と言うときは responsible for ... を使います。人・仕事・問題・結果などを後ろに置けます。

• responsible to は「〜に対して責任を負う」

  responsible to は、報告先や責任を負う相手を表します。例えば responsible to the manager は「マネージャーに対して責任を負う」という意味です。

• 性格を表すときはほめ言葉

  a responsible person は「責任感のある人」という良い意味です。反対は irresponsible「無責任な」です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I am responsible of this project.

  正: I am responsible for this project.

  「〜を担当している」は responsible for を使います。responsible of は自然ではありません。

• 誤: He is responsible to clean the room.

  正: He is responsible for cleaning the room.

  responsible for の後ろに動作を置く場合は、動詞の -ing 形を使います。

• 誤: She is very responsibility.

  正: She is very responsible.

  responsibility は名詞「責任」、responsible は形容詞「責任感のある」です。be動詞の後ろで人の性格を説明するときは responsible を使います。
