使い方

• 複数形は lilies

  lily は子音字 + y で終わる名詞なので、複数形は y を i に変えて -es を付け、lilies になります。

• water lily との違い

  water lily は「スイレン」を指し、池や湖に浮かぶ植物です。名前に lily が入りますが、普通の garden lily（庭に咲くユリ）とは別の植物として扱われます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I saw many lilys in the garden.

  正: I saw many lilies in the garden.

  lily の複数形は lilys ではなく lilies です。

• 誤: I bought a lily flower for her.

  正: I bought a lily for her.

  lily だけで「ユリの花」を表せるので、普通は lily flower と言う必要はありません。
