使い方

  • assistant は人にも役職にも使う

    assistant は「手伝う人」という一般的な意味でも、personal assistant や research assistant のような職名としても使えます。

  • 形容詞としては役職名の前に置く

    assistant manager, assistant professor, assistant coach のように、名詞の前に置いて「補助の」「副の」という意味になります。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: She is assistant of the manager.

    正: She is an assistant to the manager.

    「〜のアシスタント」は assistant to ... が自然です。assistant は数えられる名詞なので、単数なら an が必要です。

  • 誤: He is an assistant manager of the store.

    正: He is the assistant manager of the store.

    店にその役職が1人と考えられる場合は the assistant manager が自然です。ただし初めて紹介する場合や複数いる場合は an assistant manager も使えます。
